International Foundation is an ideal program for achievement driven, ambitious students who wish to take the advantage of starting their bachelor’s degree as early as possible. Upon completing the International Foundation program you are able to start your bachelor’s degree in Sri Lanka or transfer abroad to an international university.

Our Foundation program is one of the very few Foundation programs recognized by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission (TVEC) of Sri Lanka and therefore endorsed by the government agencies when you apply for international universities. Students are able to select the elective subjects based on the degree that they wish to follow after the Foundation.

Academic Qualifications

  • Minimum 06 Passes at GCE O/L or an equivalent qualification upon completion of 12 years of secondary education.

  • Students who have less than 06 Passes at O/L could sit for the Selection test conducted by the institute

  • Age less than 20 years (If you are over 20 years of age, please talk to our student advisors about alternative pathways to become eligible for a bachelors degree.)

  • Language Proficiency

  • Required level of Proficiency in English Language (Assessed through a placement test at the interview)

  • Language Support : If you do not meet the expected level of proficiency, you could sign up for a free English language proficiency program offered by the institute)

  • 1. Why is the foundation program 01 year, when other institutes have shorter courses?

  • Most of the short foundation courses are recognized by the partner of these institutes and therefore you are restricted to one place upon completing your foundation. Most top universities expect a foundation of 01 year and especially TVEC of Sri Lankan government only recognizes a foundation if it is of minimum one year duration.

  • 2. Why is mathematics a compulsory module?

  • All bachelor’s degrees offered by recognized universities include a dissertation and research methods modules. For a student understand statistics and research methods, a basic knowledge in mathematics is essential. This program provides that basic knowledge for you to become successful in your degree.

  • 3. What is covered under academic writing?

  • Academic writing module prepares you for the different types of written assessments, reports writing, assignment and argumentative essays, presentations and critical evaluations of journals that are a part of any bachelor’s degree. Gaining these skills during the foundation will give you a head start in your bachelor’s.

  • 4. What kind of learning support do students get?

  • Foundation program is delivered as a small group programs of 20 – 25 students per group. This allows lecturers to pay individual attention to the students who may require extra support. Also students have access to the Academic writing unit and the Mathematics Support unit if they wish to obtain one on one support for their studies.

  • 5. What is my next step after the Foundation program?

  • You have several options available. You could continue your studies with CIRP for a bachelor’s degree in Psychology or combined degrees in Psychology and Counseling/ Child Care/ Criminology/ Sport Science/ Business/ HRM or Marketing. Or you could join our sister school, CIIHE to study degrees in Business, Marketing, HRM, Hospitality, Tourism, Event Management. Also you have the option of transferring to an international university study a range of different degree. Our international placements division, CIIHE Global will provide you guidance and support to transfer to these universities.
