CIRP Diploma in Early Childhood Education & Care (DECE)
CIRP introduced the DECE upon observing the demand for a program that produces professionals who are able to provide the best support for children to prepare them for the future world. Most of the content and the delivery methods of the traditional early childhood qualifications are outdated and does not empower the students to work with children and parents in line with the modern trends and learning technology. Therefore we have updated the content, modernized the delivery methods and designed a program that produces early childhood professionals who can confidently work with children in Sri Lanka or anywhere in the world, meeting industry standards and expectations.

Specialized modules for the first time in Sri Lanka

Technological advancement in the world affects every aspect of our life. Use of IT devices by children have largely increased with time and the recent pandemic only increased it’s speed. Therefore future child care and childhood education professionals need to be able to support children using these modern technologies. These new methods come with a range of benefits as well as challenges. This module will give you skills and competence in using IT and online teaching.
Working in Multicultural and Multi-lingual context
If you are working in an urban area in Sri Lanka or in any of the main cities in the world, you will have to work with children and parents from different cultural background. One of the key issues in current early childhood education is that the medium children learn is different of their mother tongue. These have cased certain challenges for the professionals in the field. This module will empower you to manage these challenges.
Modern Trends – Stem Education
STEM education is being implements in schools throughout the world and it is important that children are oriented toward these systems from early childhood itself. Therefore receiving knowledge and understanding about STEM education and how children could be oriented towards this from early years will be discussed in this module making you a truly futuristic professional.
Children’s rights & global perspective on child protection
It is very important that anyone involved with children have a good knowledge about the rights of children and protection guidelines. This module will help you become a professional who respects children rights, prevents yourself from harming them even unintentionally, making you popular and respected among children and parents. This is also a vital module if you expect to work internationally.
Child development policy development & advocacy
Your passion for working with children doesn’t need to be restricted to teaching or childcare, you could be a leader in the profession who would like to promote and advocate policies in child development, protection and welfare. There are many opportunities available in government and non-government organizations for these areas. This module will expose you to these areas that will empower you to branch in a range of different careers.
Common disorders of learning & development
Some behavioral and learning disorders are becoming more frequent among children due to various genetic and socio-economic reasons. It is vital that such issues are identified and directed towards professionals who could help these children. As an individuals whom children spend most of their time with, you should have the basic knowledge to identify them and how to work with parents to find the support these children need. Therefore this module is an essential module in modern earlychildhood and childcare programs.
From the second semester onward you will be placed in different real life settings that enables you to gain the practical skills and exposure in the field. You will have rotating placements in nurseries, pre schools. Day care, Special education units, child psychology clinics, NGO’s working with children to provide you an idea about different careers and their expectations. This will help you select a field that you are confortable and confident in working after you completed your program.
Furthermore that guided training you receive will be a definite plus when you are applying for jobs as well as further studies.
You will completed 240 credits at level 5 according to the UK qualifications framework. Curriculum is designed based on the guidelines of the RQF framework to meet international quality standards. Also the program meets the criteria of the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission of Sri Lanka.
During this two (02) year program you will study for 120 credits in each year. Each year will include three (03) semesters. You will have classes three days a week from 2.00 p.m. – 5.30 p.m. in each semester. Morning hours are reserved for your placements from the second semester.

Diploma of Higher Education in Early Childhood Education and Child Care qualifies you to start your career are pre-school or primary teacher, a professional in Child care, Day care provider or join organizations concerned with child care and well-being.
Upon completing the Diploma of Higher Education in Early Childhood Education and Child Care, you will be able to progress in to a Bachelor’s degree in Early Child Hood Education delivered at CIRP in Sri Lanka in affiliation with a British University.
If you wish to transfer abroad for your final year, our international office will facilitate you to obtain entry to Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education in top universities in UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand , USA and Dubai.

Educational Qualifications - Standard Entry
Completed A/L (SL / Edexcel / Cambrdige / Recognized examinations body) with a minimum of Two (02) Passes in any Stream
Or Completed O/L (SL / Edexcel / Cambrdige / Recognized examinations body) with credit passes in Mathematics and English and have completed a Foundation Programme awarded by a recognized College /University
Educational Qualifications - Special considerations for currently working Pre-school teachers
Applicable for candidates who do not meet the above entry criteria but are currently engaged in teaching or other professions with Children. You could apply for this program based on your experience.
These applications will be handled on an individual basis and the academic board will decide based on the evidence provided by the candidate.
A high level of English Proficiency (Equal to IELTS 6.5) is required to successfully complete this program.
English Proficiency of the students will be assessed in the beginning of the programs and students who do not meet the expected standard will be asked to follow the English Language Proficiency Program (ELPP) offered by CIRP and obtain the required level of mastery before commencing their studies.
CIRP Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) facilitates students to engage in studies from anywhere in the world. CIRP Online Library which holds the largest collection E- textbooks, research papers and journal articles could be accessed through Virtual Learning Environment. You no longer have to borrow print versions, you can read and refer to these resources though your computer or phone.

Academic Writing Centre
Students have access to a dedicated academic writing center to guide and train students in scientific communication to improve writing, referencing and in-text citation. Students could visit the center by making an appointment and receive one on one support on their academic writing skills.
