Stars of CIRP 2025, 13 students Honored for Academic and Research Excellence at the Graduation

CIRP graduation ceremony, the annual festival of academic accomplishments of CIRP students who excelled in different courses in psychology was held on 1st of March at Mount Lavinia Hotel, Colombo. Among all the excitement, a key highlight that captured everyone’s attention was the awarding of gold medals and plaques for students who have performed exceptionally in their respective courses.

After all the degrees and diplomas were conferred, it was the moment for these promising young academics and researchers to shine. One by one, they were called upon the stage by the registrar to receive these awards of special recognition from the Chair of the governing council of CIRP. A spectrum of emotions where excitement, joy, happiness and content were all blended was seen in the faces of these outstanding individuals.

CIRP has been awarding medals and plaques in recognition of academic and research excellence since its first graduation. CIRP as the premier campus for psychology in Sri Lanka maintains very high standards in terms of curriculum and assessments and therefore being recognized as an exceptional student in psychology at CIRP is a rare honor. Among thousands of students who have graduated with undergraduate and postgraduate courses in psychology over the decades, only a few dozen have been granted such prestige.

A total of ten graduates were awarded gold medals for best performance in their respective courses. A gold medal is awarded for having completed all course requirements without exceeding the standard duration allocated for the program and achieving the highest overall average in a particular intake of a specific academic qualification.

Students who received the medals for each cohort are:

Vinodhya Theekshani Fernando

Fathima Rumaiza Madardeen

Thanippuli Arachchilage Poojathmi Senulya Ariyarathna

Gamage Dona Bhadrinie Udara

Senanayake Amarasinghe Mohotti Appuhamilage Dinagi Devindi Senanayake

Two graduates were recognized for their research excellence in their undergraduate research projects. For each cohort a medal and a plaque is awarded to the student who, by the judgment of the academic board, has submitted the best research project, dissertation, or thesis with a distinctly high level of academic and research rigor in par with international research standards.

Awards for this category in 2025 were :

Fathima Nabeelah Rizan

Garshika Sewwandhi Sivaji

The most prestigious award at CIRP graduation ceremonies is the “Outstanding Student of the Year”. A title granted to a student who, by the judgment of the academic board, has demonstrated exceptional academic skills while making an outstanding contribution to the student community in organizing and leading students to achieve a goal for the benefit of the student community, inspiring fellow students by initiating creative and innovative endeavors, or enhancing non-academic skills of the students leading to achieving national or international level recognition.

Welisarage Romain Sheeny Ranamuni was awarded the medal and the plaque for the Outstanding student of the year 2025.

We would like to congratulate these distinguished graduates. They have made us proud and we are certain that they will shine wherever they go.
